Our Story
It started with a simple frustration. In 2018, James Chen — a biomechanics engineer at Nike for 8 years — couldn't find a sneaker that delivered both world-class performance and genuine street style. So he quit his job, called his college friend Maria Rodriguez, a footwear designer at Adidas, and together they set up shop in James's Portland garage.
With $12,000 in savings, a 3D printer, and an obsessive attention to detail, they spent 14 months developing the first STRIDE sneaker. When they launched on Kickstarter in 2019, they raised $340,000 in 72 hours — ten times their goal.
Today, STRIDE is trusted by over 50,000 customers in 30 countries. But the mission hasn't changed: create sneakers that refuse to compromise.

The people behind every pair
James spent 8 years as a biomechanics engineer at Nike, developing cushioning systems for three generations of running shoes. He holds 6 patents in footwear cushioning technology, including FlexFoam™. He's logged over 5,000 miles in STRIDE shoes and still runs the Portland waterfront every morning at 5:30am.
Maria was a senior footwear designer at Adidas for 6 years, leading two award-winning lifestyle collections. Her philosophy is "purposeful beauty" — every curve serves both form and function. She leads a team of 12 designers and was recognized by Fast Company as one of the Most Creative People in Business.
David joined STRIDE in 2020, bringing 10 years of materials science experience from his PhD at MIT and a stint at Tesla. He built STRIDE's innovation lab from scratch, developing processes that reduce waste by 40%. He led the carbon fiber spring plate in the Air Velocity Pro — a breakthrough completed in just 11 months.
Emma spent 7 years advising Fortune 500 companies on supply chain sustainability. She joined STRIDE in 2021 with a bold mandate: carbon neutral by 2027.
